NAY PYI TAW, 1 Feb- President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Thein Sein and President of the Republic of Singapore Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam held talks at West Drawing Room of Istana on 30 January morning.

The Singaporean President extended greetings first. The Myanmar President elaborated on practice of legislative, executive and judicial powers separately in consistence with democratic process in Myanmar, the government’s stride on the right path to democracy despite its democracy experience is in its infancy, continued to say that measures for burgeoning of democracy, peace negotiations with ethnic armed groups to ensure stability of the State, coordination with domestic political organizations including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, preparedness to enable political parties including the NLD run for forthcoming by-elections, progress in political stability of the State and decline in international pressure, increased interests of international investors including ASEAN fellow nations in Myanmar’s economy, standardization of investment laws and procedures agreeable to the ASEAN and international community, formation of leaner investment commission for effective and speedy functioning.

He asked the Singaporean President to urge Singaporean businessmen to invest in Myanmar, saying that it would benefit the both nations as Myanmar had rich natural resources. He also asked Singapore’s help for human resources development of Myanmar.

The Singaporean President expressed his pride and pleasure for democratic endeavours of Myanmar government led by the Myanmar president. He added that he believed the Myanmar government would successfully handle the forthcoming by-elections in peaceful and tranquil environment. He mentioned that the constructive political and economic developments would attract investments and Singaporean investors would make investments in Myanmar, promising to cooperate in economic and human resources development, fundamental for development of Myanmar.
